Brian Li
Back to BACH Soloist: Piano
Brian is an 18-year-old Canadian pianist. He was recently a finalist at the 2025 Yamaha and Bösendorfer International Piano Competitions, having the privilege of performing for a jury including Martha Argerich. He has won a plethora of other awards, including 1st grand prize at the Chicago International Music Competition, 2nd prize at the Kaufman Music Center International Music Competition, 1st place at the Canadian Music Competition, and more. Brian made his orchestral debut with the Florence Conservatory Orchestra in Perugia, Italy, and has since then performed concertos with orchestras in Italian, American, and Canadian venues; he was invited by the West Coast Symphony to open their 2023-2024 concert season as a soloist. He has published a paper on ethnomusicology in the International Journal of High School Research and is currently conducting research on Miao singing. As the founder and president of Performing for a Difference, an NPO dedicated to providing performance opportunities to aspiring artists and music to those in care centers, emergency shelters, and more, Brian has fundraised over CAD 10k through concert series. Brian is teaching himself composition, hoping to create a city pop/hip hop album to the vibe of “MF DOOM meets Tatsuro Yamashita.”
