Shixun (Wooba) Song

Shixun Song is a senior at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He has been playing piano for 13 years and currently studies piano with Isabella Li at New England Conservatory Prep. Previously, he has also studied with Li Wang of the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, with Elaine Felder and Yumy Lee Kim at the Music Institute of Chicago, as well as privately with Brenda Huang. He has participated in masterclasses with Jerome Lowenthal, Charlotte Hu, Victor Rosenbaum, Michael Lewin, Douglas Humphreys, and Evren Ozel, among many others.

Shixun has won first place in the Rubato International Piano Competition, the A. Ramón Rivera Piano Competition, the Massachusetts MTNA Competition, the Sejong Music Competition, the USU Summer Piano Festival Competition, and the Fiorito International Music Competition. He has received honors in many others, including the NEPTA Piano Competition, the DePaul Concerto Festival and the Walgreens National Concerto Competition. He has also been a participant of many other festivals and competitions, including the Philadelphia Young Pianists Academy, and the Musica Mundi Course and Festival.

In addition to solo piano, Shixun is an avid chamber musician. He has performed in the quarterfinals of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition as part of Trio Tempest, the youngest ensemble to ever be accepted to the competition. They have also been performed in the 37th season of the Young Steinway Concert Series. Shixun is an alumnus of New England Conservatory’s Chamber Music Intensive Performance Seminar program, during which he won 2nd place in the New England International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition as a member of Trio Lucidus.

At school, Shixun serves as co-head of the Chamber Music Society and the handbell choir. A self-taught saxophonist, he is the principal saxophonist for the wind ensemble and plays both alto and soprano saxophone in the wind ensemble and jazz band. Beyond music, he enjoys participating in the classics club and flow arts club.
