Valentina (Val) Chen is a 14-year-old violinist of Korean, Chinese, and American heritage. She studies violin at The Juilliard Pre-College with Sheryl Staples, while maintaining her academic education at Princeton Day School in New Jersey. Val has won top prizes in numerous competitions including The Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition, New Jersey MTNA, CAI and NEMTA Competition and has performed on various New York stages including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Kaye Playhouse and Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Val's orchestral accomplishments include notable appearances with the Orchestra of Camerata of New Jersey, Juilliard Pre-College Symphony, and The Little Orchestra Society. In 2023, she was selected to join the prestigious Perlman Music Program, where she has performed extensively both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles throughout the year. Her other distinguished teachers have included Li Lin, Itzhak Perlman, Catherine Cho, and Stefan Jackiw. Beyond her dedication to the violin, Val finds joy in reading, writing, swimming, and spending time with her dog.
